Praksis of Gestalting

Patmos is a Gestalting practice integrating business and art. We observe the histories, philosophies, aesthetic sensibilities, and hopes for the future that live within companies, businesses, organizations, cities, cultures, products, and spaces. Discovering values and possibilities that have not yet found words or form, we envision futures for people and communities and work alongside them to bring those futures into being. Our practice spans philosophy and strategy, business development, organizational development, branding, design, marketing, product development, architecture and spatial design, editing and publishing, film, and the shaping of culture. These are not separate disciplines. When a philosophy changes, an organization changes, and what it creates changes. When products and spaces change, people’s behavior and relationships change, and eventually culture changes too. We observe these mutually influential relationships as one whole, and from it derive the forms that are needed. We call this practice “Gestalting™.”

Patmos brings together practitioners from diverse backgrounds—designers, architects, editors, researchers, photographers, filmmakers, engineers, business leaders, and others—who share the question: “What enables life to flourish?” We work with more than visible outcomes and functions. The thoughts and relationships behind them, the time they carry, and the cultures passed on to the future are also what we seek to shape. Exploring questions and observing the world with our clients and partners, we discover and give form to the necessity inherent in companies, organizations, places, and people. The future does not arise from plans alone. Sincere practice, small acts of courage, and the sensitivity to recognize beauty as beautiful: together, these gradually change the world. Patmos continues to practice toward that possibility.
