Prologue

We see the world through our own measures—each shaped by experience, knowledge, culture, and memory, and each carrying its own particular biases. What do we accept as true? What do we consider good? What do we perceive as beautiful? This series begins by tracing the origins of these measures and critically questioning the perceptions they have shaped within us. Everything that exists is part of a multidimensional whole woven from space and time, people and society, culture, nature and the cosmos, meaning and possibility. We can never comprehend this whole from a single point of view. That is why we seek to perceive the whole through Truth, will our relationship to it through Goodness, and sense through Beauty the possibilities that have yet to take form or find language. Truth, Goodness, and Beauty are ways of seeing that bring us closer to the whole that remains unseen. To bring something into the world is not to impose form upon it from the outside. Perhaps it is to participate in the totality of relationships as part of that whole ourselves. From there, we derive the form appropriate to each existence, allowing their values to resonate with one another beyond the sum of their parts—and to unfold into narratives that are moving, light, beautiful, and free. In this book, we call this endless process of inquiry and practice Gestalting™, and explore the possibilities it opens.
